Can you guess where we were yet? Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. We met up with my folks in Baltimore and drove down there for their Christmas Celebration. What a pristine place.
My brain is hurting from the history I soaked up. So many kings and queens were in involved. Some small town scholars and lawyers by the names of Jefferson, Adams, Washington and Madison were working their way up the ladder. So this is where A LOT went down back in the day. Serious serious history. Speed up a few years and this place starts to fall apart. In comes this Rockefeller guy and he see's yet another place in America that HAS to be preserved and he writes a big fat check. We LOVE that Rockefeller guy for saving so many of our nations historic landmarks. The preservation begins and to this day it is under constant care. One of the guides said it takes 15 people to put one nail in the place, still lot's of rules.
Gardens galore, even in the winter they were beautiful
Every little detail was taken care of....amazing. I wanted every garden shed I saw.
People live in many of the houses and you could never tell. EXCEPT this time of year they have wreath competitions. There are rules for the competition (lots of rules in 1775 too) but this woman has won several times. Her theme this year was The Fox Hunt. Her bread dough wreaths were adorable.
Too cute!
I'll add a few more photos in the next few days. If you love history and colonial time this place is a must see. It's the largest living history museum in the world. So that means if you saw someone in costume, they were in character. Pretty cool if you like spending your day wearing 1775 clothing because NOT everyone dressed like Queen Charlotte.
Isn't she hot?;)
